The Not So Big Career: Rightsizing Your Career and Lifewith Sarah Susanka, cultural visionary and best-selling author of The Not So Big series
Have you ever thought that you wear too many hats in your career? Are your days at work so filled with commitments, meetings, and to-do lists that time goes by in a blur? Ever wondered whether you really need – or even want – such a “big” career? Is there a way to feel at peace, content, “at home” in your career? A bigger career is not necessarily a better career. Join Alan Kearns as he interviews Sarah Susanka, Architect and best-selling author of The Not So Big House series, Home By Design, and The Not So Big Life as they discuss how to rightsize your life and career.
“It’s possible to take the blur that is modern life – the obligations, the messages to return, errands to run, and family and friends to squeeze in there somehow – and slow it down so we can actually be there in what we’re doing. It’s possible to start living a Not so Big Life of full, rich, vivid moments where everything that happens to us is experienced fully, and where spirit and connect have room to thrive.” (Sarah Susanka, The Not so Big Life)
Sarah Susanka, FAIA, has written nine books that collectively weave together home and life design, revealing that a Not So Big attitude serves not only architectural aims, but life goals as well. Her books have sold well over one million copies and in The Not So Big Life, she suggests we can be “at home” in our lives only when we engage everything we do with integrity, each action reflecting who we truly are. Susanka has been interviewed by hundreds of television and radio shows across North America including “Oprah,” “Charlie Rose,” and “Good Morning America. She is regularly tapped by major news organizations including The New York Times, USA Today and national magazines for her insights into home design, lifestyle and sustainability. Fast Company named Susanka to their debut list of “Fast 50” innovators whose achievements have helped to change society. Susanka is a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council. She was born in Kent, England, and today lives in North Carolina. (Photo courtesy of Cheryl Muhr)
