[MMM] Your career goals are closer than they appear

Good morning,

Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.

Every time you get in your car, this truth is spoken to you.

This safety requirement is engraved on passenger side mirrors of vehicles in the USA, Canada and India. The mirror’s convexity gives you a better field of view but makes objects appear smaller & seem farther away than they are.

It’s true – and not just in your car.

This is a good time of year to review what has worked in the past, and what can be improved in your life. Every New Years Day, I take the time to review the different parts of my life, it is always an encouraging exercise to look at the experiences & goals, and how they have impacted me. Some parts can be discouraging when I look at some of the goals I didn’t achieve this past year.

Objects in the mirror are closer than they appear.

As you process 2018 and head into 2019, you may think that what you desire professionally & personally is even further away. I get it.

In reality, many of the goals you desire are more achievable than you think. Like the mirror, your view is probably being distorted by context & perspective. The wonderful thing about a New Year is just that: a fresh start.

Goals, and hopes, and dreams are waiting for you. Get started.

Along the road with you,

Alan
