Good Monday morning,
Does it seem like you need to hunker down in the current economy and stay the course? Do you have a great business idea, but sense the market is too risky? Do you feel like a round peg in a square hole?
Apple is one of my favorite brands. For many years their tagline was "think different". I rustled up Apple’s original campaign. Here is some of the text.
Here’s to the crazy ones: The misfits; The rebels; The troublemakers; The round pegs in the square holes; The ones who see things differently – They’re not fond of rules and they have no respect for the status quo.
In 1997, Steve Jobs came back to Apple as CEO. Apple’s sales had dropped by 50% and one of the key things he observed, they needed to "think different". "We need to focus on what we can do, not how we can compete against Microsoft". Do you feel like a round peg in a square hole? What can you do to start the journey of being different? Great companies and individuals can get trapped by thinking like the market. Before you know it, you are a square peg! There is always risk, but my experience has shown that, thinking differently will result in a more successful career, more fun an ironically less overall risk.
This week in what ways can you think differently?
