Good Monday morning!
Believe it or not, I have always enjoyed reading children’s books. As a parent, one of my favourite things to do was read to my children. Whenever I traveled I would pick up a book for my kids, and I found that the truth, wisdom, and design sensibility of children’s books not only enriched my kids’ lives, but also mine. One of my favourite authors is Dr. Seuss.
“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before! What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store. What if Christmas… perhaps… means a little bit more!” – Dr. Seuss
How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was written in 1957 and is ranked in the “Teachers’ Top 100 Books for Children.” Dr. Seuss was 53 years old and his partner had suffered from a series of strokes. I am sure the theme of How the Grinch Stole Christmas! was developed with those personal experiences in mind; what is really important is not consumption, but the gift of friendship and love, community and family.
As you consider this season, may you be reminded of the gifts that truly last – the love you give to and receive from those that you deeply care for.
On behalf of myself and the CareerJoy team, that is our wish for you.
